Crafty canvas bags

What to do with some giggling girls after a late night of movie in their jammies and some sugary cupcakes.  Hmmm...need to channel this energy into something fun and messy of course!

I prepared a few supplies for the girls to paint canvas bags.  We used acrylic craft paints and some Sharpie paint pens.  Love these paints pens, just like a pen you can write with them and are fantastic when you want a little more control.  Works great on painting on all surfaces, even rocks too!

I made some monograms stencils and few other shapes with my Cameo.

Anna painted her monogram with an ombre effect.

Here's are the finished bags, I think they turned out fantastic!

Wishing everyone a wonderful Canada Day Holiday weekend!

Heartfelt Creations and Scor-pal

When I heard that Heartfelt Creations and Scor-pal were teaming up this week I shouted a huge WOOT!   I am a die cut girl at heart so choosing a die set from the plethora of beautiful products at Heartfelt Creation's website was a huge challenge!  After many clicks and refreshes of my computer screen I chose the Perfect Medley leaves and the matching Perfect Petals die cut set.

I love the simplicity of the pretty petals yet they are so versatile to create other shapes.  I added a few score lines and hand snipped along the edge.  The simple shaped leaf is easily transformed into a feather quill shape, a popular motif lately.

Card Supplies: Heartfelt Creations, Scor-pal tool, Echo Park pattern papers, Maya Road pin, Twinery twine.

To transform a pretty petal into a feather diecut a petal from kraft card stock.  Make score lines down the center and at angles with the Scor-pal tool.  It's nature so you don't have to be perfect with the scoring.

With scissors, cut random slits around the edge and you have just created a feather.  These would also be great palm leaves if you were to use green card stock.

Another motif from nature I love is the butterfly which I made from a few smaller sized petals.

Card Supplies: Heartfelt Creations, Scor-Tape, Crate Paper trims

Here's how I made the butterfly:

Stamped and cut out 2 petals each from the 2nd and 3rd smallest petals (these are the butterfly wings).  Apply some scor-pal tape to white cardstock and cut out the smallest petal (this is the butterfly's body)

Peel away the tape liner to expose the sticky surface and place the wings on the body.

After the wings are on the body, pour glitter over the remaining exposed sticky surface.  Decorate the body with  jewel brad and some twine.

Hope you enjoyed some fresh news ways to transform petals into other pretty shapes.
Have a wonderful day! Virginia

Summer Sizzle!

Hope everyone is staying cool in this humidity!  I was at Timmies this morning and their ice cap machine was out of order, I can believe it because I'm sure it was over worked these past few days.  So then I ordered up an ice cream from their Coldstone Creamery bar so I was happy!

Wishing all kids and teachers a fabulous wrap up to school and a wonderful beginning to your Summer holidays! woot!

Don't be sad when A Perfect Summer is all gone!

Say what!  "A Perfect Summer' gone, it's a good thing. (Martha Stewart voice).

I'll explain.  So happy that almost all of the summer elements sheet from Echo Park's 'A Perfect Summer'  is empty because this means I've finished my layouts for my on-line class, woot!   It's called Sensational Summer Layouts Recipes and it will be released this Friday June 21 (see comment below) at The Art Studio @ SNR!  All you need is the latest Echo Park A Perfect Summer collection pack, some neutral card stock, your basic toolkit and a few punches.  Print out my class recipes or download them to your computer and you are ready to cook up some uber delicious Summer layouts!

In my class, I share cool ways to combine pattern papers and use elements in fun ways.   I get a kick from knowing that I've used as much of the collection pack as I possible can, this way I don't have to worry about any leftovers to store or collect.  I created 5 double page layouts but when I looked at what was leftover I couldn't help but to try to squeeze more pages out of the scraps and ended up creating three bonus 12 x 12 pages!

5 double page layouts

3 single page layouts
I had so much fun creating this class and I hope you do too. Enjoy the summer days and all the busy activities that come along with it, then wind down with some sweet crafting time!  I'll share with you an example of a page made from the class kit tomorrow.

**Sorry there has been a delay in getting this class uploaded, as soon as I know the new date I'll post right away.  Sorry for the confusion and thanks for your understanding.

Mark your calendar and save the date!  Join them on their blog, on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest because they are going to have a party. You can check out their event on Facebook here!
Schedule in some time to sit relax under the sun umbrella, put your feet up, feel the warmth on your toes and soak in some fabulous summer inspiration. Oh and don't forget to sip some refreshing lemonade (or in my case a mojito or two, I have to keep up with the mint growing wild in my garden, tee hee).

Sensational Summer Layout Recipes on-line class

Here in Southern Ontario we are being teased with snippets of summer weather and I hope the planning/designing for my summer layouts class will bring out the sunshine for good!

First, I just have to 'shout' how much I love Echo Park!  Just when I think they have released my favourite collection, they come out with something that is my new favourite.  Lori Whitlock's "A Perfect Summer" collection is so-oo fabulous!

My Sensational Summer Layouts Recipes, scheduled for release at The Art Studio @ SNR on June 21, is perfect to capture your splish splash'n fun summer memories.

I've designed the class so that all you need is Echo Park's latest 'A Perfect Summer' collection pack  some white and kraft cardstock, and your basic toolkit plus a few items from your stash such as border punches, a circle punch, twine, brads and buttons.

It's really that simple, one collection pack, some 12 x 12 cardstock and a few tools!  This class is designed like take-out.  Simple, easy, and will satisify your creative appetite!

In this class, I provide step-by-step layout composition instructions to complete 5 double page layouts. Lots of step out photos and creative tips are shared along the way inspiring you how to make the best use of your collection pack.

I love all the pretty pattern papers from this line and the coordinating die cuts are just begging to be clustered and popped up onto your pages adding whimsical fun making your photos and memories the focus of your pages.

The layout recipes are double pages but if you have ever taken a class from me you know my style is to create double page spreads where the left and right pages can stand on it's own.  So whether you are a 2 page scrapper , a single page scrapper or if you are creating multiple albums at a time you will have plenty of layouts ready to record your summer memories.

Here are a few peeks at some Echo Park summer freshness:

Lazy summer days memories!

Flip flops, shorts, and fun in the sun!

Splish Splashing Summer Days

Where can you get this lovely 'A Perfect Summer' collection by Echo Park paper?  Here are few local stores carrying this line.  If you know of another store local carrying,  please share because I think y'all 'need' to have this collection, LOL!

The Scrapping Turtle in St. Jacobs

My scrap booking tends to slow down a lot once school is out and the summer begins. If your summer plans includes a little road trip, time at the cottage, or just chillin' in your own backyard I hope you soak in all the beautiful weather outside and then relax with a little fun crafty time with my Sensational Summer Layout recipes!

A beautiful day

I posted yesterday about being under a creative mess for the last while.  When I get really busy with  scrappy projects and deadlines I keep everything on a list the old fashion way- a clipboard, line paper and just write everything little detail down and just check mark it off along the way.

For the next few days I have a clean slate and I'm going to devote all my time outside as much as possible.  It rained this past weekend and my poor yard has been neglected with loose branches, untamed plants and some very tenacious weeds!  Ughh...those ugly suckers just keep popping up EVERYWHERE but with rain this past weekend it will help to get at plucking them out.   I get a lot of delight when I get those buggers by the roots I tell ya, woot!

I have to pace myself so I work on a little section at a time, here is a look see of an area that is finished.  We have this winding path just outside our pool area and it was totally overgrown and covered that you didn't see the winding path at all.  Now you see the original shape of the path and I get so much happiness the aches in my back and hands are totally worth it.  You know the feeling when you spent hours finishing a layout that you love and every time you look at it you have a great big smile.

Here's a big ladybug ornament that I placed in the garden.  For those that may not know I am a freakish ladybug collector.  I love ladybugs, anything with ladybugs!  Plate, napkins, vases, nightlights, candle holders, bowls, magnets and of course any scrappy products...you name it I probably have it!

Hope you are enjoying a beautiful Spring day, love this time of year!

A creative mess!

To most non-scrappers, the photo below might look like a huge messy clutter situation but to many scrap bookers it just one fine creative mess!  My craft area was looking like this for the last while as I took on a client project and I'm happy to say the album is finished- a total of  30 pages.

Here are a few peeks at some of the embellishing on the pages.  The overall theme of the album was love and romance and I used lots of vellum quotes.  Vellum adds a wonderfully delicate layer and I like to punch out a pretty border along the edges.

Here I used cheerful DCWV pattern papers and fussycut out some clouds.  I printed banners and used the clouds to display the banners.

This page was of random little things that are enjoyed by the couple.

I like to layer pattern paper underneath vellum for a subtle hint of colour behind the quote.

My client was really happy with how this album turned out.  It's always rewarding when you create something special that you know will be a treasured keepsake.  There is a special page at the very end of the album which I will post about a bit later.

Have a wonderful week!
